Bird Recommends Economic Citizenship

August 29, 2012, St John’s Antigua – Former Prime Minister Lester Bird says there is a positive side to the matter of economic citizenship and the country needs to consider whether it should go that route.

Bird had consistently spoken out against the governing party’s proposal to grant citizenship to people with adequate means.

The Antigua Labour Party leader has even chided his party’s chairman for voicing support for the measure.

Bird was giving his latest position on ZDK Radio Wednesday morning.

Dominica’s economic citizenship programme mentioned in that clip has been heavily criticised by opposition activists who allege that it lacks transparency.

They also claim that Dominican passports are being sold to fraudsters and terrorists.
